Don’t Let a Disaster Set You Back Further

Herc Rentals’ Climate and Remediation Centers have the gear and expertise to get your business back and running.

From large-scale natural disasters to everyday emergencies, business owners, building superintendents, plant managers, contractors and remediation companies need to know where to turn when something goes wrong.

Whether it’s a storm surge flooding the ground floor of an apartment building following a hurricane’s landfall, a factory’s equipment freezing in the dead of winter, a hospital or office building losing its ability to cool during the summer, Herc Rentals Climate and Remediation Centers (CRC) provide the equipment, solutions and expertise needed to return to normalcy.

CRCs are fully dedicated centers designed to provide a single source of gear for remediation and restoration, cleaning and repair projects. These facilities allow teams of experts to react quickly and efficiently with specialized equipment while providing support for water or climate-related remediation stemming from natural disasters, extreme environmental conditions or similar catastrophic events.

Each year, millions are affected by damage caused by disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and fires. Many more are affected by equipment failure such as a loss of vital heating and cooling. In the aftermath of these events, every second matters because the longer one waits to begin the recovery process, the more damage and repair costs will rise.

Chris Colletti, a climate and remediation manager in Upper Marlboro, MD, just outside of Washington, D.C., said the big advantage of establishing a relationship with a CRC is fast service.

In most cases, CRC’s provide equipment to remediation companies hired by businesses, apartment buildings, factories, hospitals and more. “They know exactly what these buildings need in emergency situations,” he said. “If they don’t have enough gear to get the job done, that’s when they’ll call us.”

Recently, Colletti’s team received a call from a remediation company at 5 p.m. on a Friday. The remediation company’s representative informed the CRC team that a large apartment building had flooded.

“They knew exactly what they needed and asked for two remediation trailers on site as quickly as possible,” said Colletti, explaining the trucks were filled with 80 dehumidifiers and 240 low profile fans. “We had it all out to them in about an hour. Without us being ready, they likely would have had to call multiple companies to get that equipment out to them – and then have to piece it all together.”

While there is significantly more climate and remediation gear available at CRCs, that equipment can become scarce ahead of major storms. “We have the ability to bring gear in from branches outside of areas expected to be affected,” Colletti said.

“We rent on a first come, first serve basis,” Colletti said. That, however, doesn’t mean CRCs won’t do everything in their power to ensure established customers get the gear they need when and where they need it. “We encourage our customers to make reservations as soon as possible.”

Not all CRCs are alike, however.

Herc Rentals’ 17 strategically placed CRCs, with 6+ locations planned for 2020, are stocked with equipment geared toward the urban markets they serve. For example, the inventory of heaters at the CRC in Atlanta, GA, or Houston, TX, won’t be as plentiful as the number of heaters in locations like Toronto, ON, or Bronx, NY. The same is true for cooling equipment at CRCs in the north compared to the south.

CRCs are designed to complement every day Herc Rentals branch locations in that they’re only stocked with climate and remediation products like air conditioners, heaters, dehumidifiers and air movers. These products not only help speed up the recovery process but can save contractors, facility maintenance managers, businesses and homeowners thousands of dollars in damage repair costs.

Unlike a classic Herc Rentals branch where climate and remediation equipment like dehumidifiers may be limited to a half-dozen, a CRC may be stocked with more than 100. The idea behind a CRC is to be ready to meet a significant increase in demand following a disaster or event.

CRC’s are also designed to provide solutions for any situation, emergency or not.

While big jobs like providing emergency heating to a large apartment building during the winter or emergency cooling to a hospital, nursing home or pharmacy in the summer are ultimately what CRCs have been built for, gear can be rented for other uses as well, whether it’s used to cool barns for weddings, boost production of crews working in extreme temperatures and more.

Whatever your climate or remediation need may be, Herc Rentals CRCs offer the equipment and solutions you need to solve complex situations 24/7.
